I’m gonna go ahead and say I HAD A BLAST NIGHT USING FURY... there I said it, I got it off my chest, I’m ready for the STFU, L2P comments that might come crashing down...BUT Here’s the thing. I get to see what a good chunk of you visit my site for, and guess what FURY and TITAN’S GRIP are Chief among the reasons many warriors find this site. So without further delay let me break down last night for you.
As I said in yesterday’s post I went fury and it sucked. Yesterday it did suck, but I stayed dedicated and did a little tweaking to the spec.
If you check wowarmory for my spec right now you’ll se what I used and how I managed to turn that spec into a BG bonanza and a 25 man NAX overall DPS increase. Yeah INCREASE. ...
I’m still not 100% convinced that I’ll keep things this way, but lets just say fury is at least going to be back in my rotation.
On Fury in battlegrounds –
First lets just say battle grounds and Arena are two different things, so don’t think I’m trying to compare BG success to Arena success...
I had fun in WSG last night for the first time in a very long time. #2 on HK, #3 in damage, and #2 in Killing blows, admittedly I came in behind an Arms warrior but he did have several pieces of his furious set (including the weapon) here’s the thing though, I JUST BARELY came in behind him in. The #3 sot was filled by another fury warrior.
Ok so basically I found that putting points into precision is futile, simply because my gear had more than enough hit for PVP (5%). What I also found extremely MIND NUMBING AWESOME and effective was using ALL my CD as often as possible. Deathwish, recklessness, PVP trinket and racial AP buff. When used in conjunction on a single target I was able to get back to what I used to refer to as the “intercept-meltface-mode” this is where I intercept and within the 2-3 second stun window MELT FACE. The onlything that didn’t burn up like dross were DK’s and pallys.
Priest got there bubbles popped
Mages tried to blink away after taking massive damage only to find me on them again almost instantly
Hunters go ahead and jump back it matters not for I will be at you again in a moment
Rogues stun me if you’d like I’m just banking that rage for a whirlwind and when you try to vanish and run away I’m going to eat you
Shammy don’t go ghost wolf and run it only makes the second intercept sting that much more
Warlocks oh that 8k chaos bolt you hit me with earlier sucked, but how does the intercept 9K combo feel with an additional 2k in white damage?
Warriors – I feel your pain but now I’m going to inflict some damage to you if you’re arms keep in mind I’m going to be healing here so I’ll widdle you down, if your fury chances are I’m just better than you LOL Jk
On DK & Paly
DK – Ok while I didn’t quite destroy you I did notice I was more effective in fighting you. More burst damage against you really helps, plus now I can heal to got damn it.
Pally – I hate you. This was about a 40/60 split in most cases, you heal more than me, you stun more than me and you bubble more than me. Cowards.
FURY IN PVE
So after some fun in BG’s the guild calls for some dps. Unbeknownst to them I’d respeced fury. I get the summon and a prompt:
Guild: WTF you doing in PVP gear.
Me: just came from bg.
Pause...
WTF YOU DOING FURY?
Me: lets just go...
Start on patch first which we all know is the melee measure stick. In arms I was pulling 2.4-2.8. With fury I hit 3.1k... hmmm
Grob – Same increase in DPS
Thad – same.
Overall I tend to be in the top 10 for dps depending on who from my guild is there, I broke top 5 last night...as fury...
HOW:
Again it goes back to the spec.
WITH NO PRECISION I was at 12% hit...all from gear, so why dump 3 points there.
I’d originally speced PVP mind you so I didn’t put any points into the INSTANT SLAM and opted for the MS debuff so can you imagine if I was able to instant slam as well?
I’m going to keep people up on how this works out as time goes forward. I found that if I used recklessness, then gave about a 10 second count then used death wish, then gave it about another 10 second count then used my trinket + racial I was able to keep the BOOM BOOM PEW PEW really high up there. Rather than just poping everything at once I found using these three CD kept my DPS at a consistant level of coolness.
Keep in mind I did all this with a jawbone and a titansteel destroyer.
Earlier I said you could not make fury work until you got 2 212 dps weapons, I think for today I’ll revise that and say you need at least ONE 25 man weapon and at least a titansteel destroyer. You want to spec to be abel to use deathwish and recklessness as often as possible too.
I glyphed for whirlwind
BT increase in healing
And Increased enraged regen
Keep in mind the last two glyphs were designed for BG longevity and not DPS. Tonight when I start in on raids again I will most likely replace with some DPS type glyphs, heroic strike and...well hell not to sure what the other one will be.
CAN ANYONE ATTEST TO ANY OF THIS? I mean the mantra has been FURY SUCKS since last patch...but does it really? And why does it. Can we not get a serious discussion as to why things haven’t been working?
The 10% nerf really hurts stupid math says if you were pulling 4k dps previously you’re now pulling 3.6k (still a respectable number)
HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK WITH FURY POST 3.2 and what is your secret?
15 POST A COMMENT:
STFU! L2P!
jk...but seriously.
I think I have this figured out from your experiment coupled with mine from last night.
Okay I believe the difference is that I have been stacking ArP because I hit my mark from gear. I also believe that ArP is the shit for Arms DPS. While its still Str for fury.
UNLESS!
A lot of the top end guild's PvE warriors are Fury. I believe that onces you have access to the BiS (best in slot) items that come from the top end hard mode Bosses, Fury (and ArP with it) becomes Viable.
So here's my conclusion:
Going into 10 nax stacking Str. Fury=Okay
Going into 25 nax-Fury=Meh. As you get ALL the bosses on farm and more gear, go Arms
Going into Uldar= You want Arms
Your amazingly able to have all 25man hard mode bosses on Farm and have BiS-Fury for top end
So, Fury, Arms, Arms, Fury.
Now as I have progressed further into Uldar (did i mention we downed Yogg-Saron 25? =D ) That 3.6 DPS goes down due to stronger mobs/bosses. For a lot of fights you need to be pulling ~4.2K. And IMO that 10% really hurts.
As far as the BG/Arena thing goes. I concur, but they way BGs are, I'd just say do what ever you have more fun with and will allow you to keep the mental strength to farm.
Holy Crap, Black. I think we finally had a break through here.
Maybe we need to take this post and my comment AND "Malacor on things that make you go hmmmm " post and your comment and make it into a Warrior Special Internist.
BTW
"Pally – I hate you. This was about a 40/60 split in most cases, you heal more than me, you stun more than me and you bubble more than me. Cowards."
LMAO
See I would think that going into Nax 10 man you’d need arms, simply because I’ve tried the destroyer HHOL AND the Destroyer destroyer combo with fury early on and IT SUCKED HARDCORE. I was practically laughed out of my first few 10 mans...till I went arms and then people STFU.
When you get into 25 man nax I would say you could switch to fury when you get ONE end boss weapon. (i.e. the jawbone, BoH, Armageddon)
IF you’re able to get 2 25 man nax weapons (especially if you have two BoH) I would say stay fury into uld. OTHERWISE go ARMS into ULD. Until you get another weapon Then go back fury.
So it’d look something like
10 man nax – ARMS gem strength
25 Man nax – ARMS, till you get one weapon, then FURY. Gem strength
ULD
- ARMS if you have one 25 man nax weapon, gem strength till you get 30% ArP from gear then Gem ArP
- FURY if you have 2 25 man nax weapons, gem strength. YOU MUST BE AT CAP WITHOUT PRECISION to dump points into more Recklessness and deathwish
Uld 25
- ARMS Until you get 2 212 dps weapons, gem ArP if you meet gear minimum otherwise strength
- FURY once you get 2 212 dps, Gem ArP if you meet gear minimum otherwise strength
BiS – FURY FTW.
Arena - ....i would still bet ARMS but I’m anxious to try some fury this weekend and test it over the long haul.
I still think it’s crucial not to blow 3 points into precision. Put it like this. I run with my hateful shoulder pieces, and a myiriad of PVP, PVE gear when I raid and my hit is at 12%...getting gear cap is NOT hard and is hardly something you even need to shoot for. Better to get more damage buffs to make up for the 10% nerf... I mean hell when you think about it 20% from deathwish alone helps to reduce the effect of the debuff if only for the duration of the buff...
It seems to me that warrior are so gear dependent, that your spec should really vary on what you have access to
Guys, thanks for your positive look at the Fury/Arms warrior situation. So often, all you hear is "that spec sucks" without really saying why, and these last couple articles gave me hope to competing as a Fury warrior again! Plus everytime I read you're guys stuff, it makes me proud my main's a warrior. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Lambfries.
Our goal is to provide as much insight in to all things warrior so please send your warrior friends along so we can all bring warriors back to where they used to be.
I did think of a question for you guys...fury in BGs. When it comes to cooldowns (recklessness, deathwish, trinkets, etc) would you pop all at once, or attempt to space them out, like you did in PVE?
Also, when it comes to weapon choice, would a titansteel destroyer and the two hand sword from argent tourney be an acceptable starting point? I'm gonna try to get into FL pugs for that 2h, but wanted something to start with in the meantime.
Hey Lambfries! Thanks for reading!
Well for a starting point, you can't really choose what weapons you get, only what you have access to. If those are the best you have avialible to you, then go for it! And remember to go for Naxx's too, although those weapons are not the best around (NOTHINGS GONNA EVER GET YA DOWN!...umm...yea)
They're still pretty damn good, I'm using death's bit atm still.
As for the CDs, Black could probably help you out more, but I believe it would depend on the situations and what your trying to kill.
Thanks Malacor! For the CDs, I'd think in a PVP situation, you'd want to blow at least a couple of them at the same time for burst damage...spreading them out one at a time makes sense for PVE, sense the fights last longer..you want your DPS as high as possible for as long as possible. But without a healer or backup DPS, i'm not lasting long enough to use them all spread out...maybe I just answered my own question. :)
You did indeed answer your own question. As a rule of thumb never go at things alone in a BG first off.
Second. You're going to Die in bg. SO you can count on at least 30 seconds of down time every so often, which means you should be blowing EVERYTHING as often as possible.
Now if it's you and 4 others vs. 1 other guy then don't bother, but when there's a fight to be had bring your "A" game Pew pew 100% or /afk :)
As for the weapons, those are pretty good starts. When I first hit BG's at 80 I was using the deranged war ax and a destroyer. Then I upgraded to the HHOL axe, then wraith spear, then Jawbone...
Keep in mind there was some significant time in between each upgrade. :(
Also if you're HONOR FARMING I would seriously consider going prot. You get more honor for HK's and they are easier to rack up than KILLING BLOWS. With prot you can really OUTLAST mostpeple and as long as you're fighting in groups you're golden.
Good advice. Thanks BT and Malacor!! Best warrior blog out there.
Hey imma thinkin of retiring from Fury Raid Dps and takin up pvp on my Warrior Bigond, He is currently Dual Weilding Edge of Ruin and wearin T7.5 and 2 piece of T8 But i must say changin from arms dps to fury was the best decision i made, I had a good increase in dps was like and extra 600dps. Anyway back to the pvp/arena i still cant decide whats better arms or fury, ive also thought of prot for pvp but aint too sure any help/info would be great
Well if this isn’t the question of the hour for Warrior pvp...
“What should I do”
Without a doubt ARMS is your bread and butter spec. I’d say go arms simply by virtue of mortal strike. Now there are some rare occasions where you could get away with fury, namely in a 5 man or 3 man where you have an Arms warrior.
Fury – while it’s bursty isn’t enough IMHO to consistently burn people down. You’re a hell of a lot more kiteable too and if you don’t kill your target in the first few moments of a battle you’re going to be hurting later on
Prot – IS VERY FUN, but not very consistant. You can seriously do some damage with the right spec, but because of the whole “lack of MS” thing it’s sorta tough. Best bet if you’re going arms is to get another DPSer. I would suggest a Destro lock...possibly a mage or hunter. Something ranged to help out with the people who’ll be kiting you. Your job will be as bait. Good luck.
I have a Fury warrior, wielding edge of ruin and Inevitable Defeat, i have good gear, t9 shoulders and legs, rest t8 cept for my cloak, still have a t7 cloak, i focused more on str and crit then hit ratin so my hit rating is not capped but its close at 6.5%. I pull between 3.8k and 4.3k dps in most heroic instances and a constant 4.5k in raids, for arms i did more dps with less gear but once you get decently geared i found that fury just beats the crap out of arms.
That being said my pvp spec is arms, being able to charge at the being and build rage really helps, I've tried fury in pvp and did very well when i was in a group and sum1 else was taking the hits because i could sent out constant high damage but when you're fighting 1 on 1 arms has much better survivability imo.
Someone already said it but in 2s the best type of partner i've found is a range dps, also ret pallys are nice due to there stun abilies and bubble (let them take the damage) :)
I just gave fury a shot. I have not been into the arena with it yet but i have found that I survive much better in the BGs and i dont seem to be starved for rage as much with bubble classes.
Even burnt through a few healers that just wasnt happening with arms.. and yes thats with MS and OP on them.
Im still new to it but i definatly see potential
