Screw You That's MY Weapon - Malacor on Need Rolls and Weapon Upgrades

Hey there, everybody! Hope you guys are all doing well, today I thought I’d give these personal stories a shot! Now this story is probably the most depressing thing from my WoW life, but it has a great lesson in it so I’m going to share. Now this tale comes from way back when in BC when my guild had just begun progress on SSC, actually a few months before too, but we’ll get there.

For those of you who don’t remember the specifics of warrior tanking back in BC, it revolved a lot around the speed of your weapon, slow weapon=slow tps. Also in BC there was a great shortage of GOOD weapons. Now I had already been into SSC, but I was using this dinky BoE blue wep, just for its speed, that most of you might remember. I ran kara every week to try to get Kings Defender, which was the shit, but to no avail. (One you all will come to know about me is that I am very unlucky.) There was a long wait list for Mallet of the Tides, so that was out.

So that leaves two choices really. The sword form Exalted Honor Hold or a little sword called, The Sun Eater from heroic mech. At 70, it was a total pain in the ass to get HH rep all the way up, because Shattered Halls was the Oculus of BC, so in other words, it made you want to cut your eye out and stick your head in a salt mil.

So for three months I grinded H-mech like a sex crazed panther in heat. I would wake up in the morning and do it before classes, and come back to try again after the reset. Meanwhile I would keep on raiding with the same results. Needless to say I learned everything there is to know about that godforsaken place, even the most optimal group make up. This freaking sword just wouldn’t drop.

But after three months I finally got lucky! I make it all the way to the end, and guess what drops!? [The Sun Eater]! In all of its purple-ly greatness.

So yea, I got slammed by the ninja bat, everyone can take a moment to QQ if you’d like for me ^_^

So I was so tired of Heroic Mech after that I never did it again, so I went to my only other option…the painful HH grind. Long story short, the next month I was swinging away with a brand new rep sword, my TPS went way up, and I was in all epics FINALLY! And wouldn’t you know it, two days later it was my turn for Mallet of the Tides (3rd best tanking wep in BC)

Okay so this taught me a few things. Always take the guaranteed upgrade over the chance. Because the more you upgrade your gear, the higher end stuff your get into and the better gear you’ll get from there.

So next time your doing your Naxx 25 pugg or whatever it is your doing, and you win that shinny new peace and some dps says to you, ‘oh wait. If you give me that I’ll pass on (something else you want here)” Don’t Do It. Well, unless you really want to, I can’t control what you do.

But look at it this way. You have this item in front of you and it will benefit you, and that other item, has a chance of not even dropping. And IF IT DOES, you have the SAME CHANCE of winning it as you did winning the peace in front of you.


P.S. For those of you wondering I did see that ninja again, in WOTLK we are both DPS. It was in a 25man naxx pug. I’m in an end game raiding guild and pulled 4.3k dps in the particular pug. He’s guild-less and topped at 1800.
