Fury Vs. Arms: Uh fury worked last night for me...go figure.

I’m gonna go ahead and say I HAD A BLAST NIGHT USING FURY... there I said it, I got it off my chest, I’m ready for the STFU, L2P comments that might come crashing down...BUT Here’s the thing. I get to see what a good chunk of you visit my site for, and guess what FURY and TITAN’S GRIP are Chief among the reasons many warriors find this site. So without further delay let me break down last night for you.

As I said in yesterday’s post I went fury and it sucked. Yesterday it did suck, but I stayed dedicated and did a little tweaking to the spec.
If you check wowarmory for my spec right now you’ll se what I used and how I managed to turn that spec into a BG bonanza and a 25 man NAX overall DPS increase. Yeah INCREASE. ...

I’m still not 100% convinced that I’ll keep things this way, but lets just say fury is at least going to be back in my rotation.
On Fury in battlegrounds –
First lets just say battle grounds and Arena are two different things, so don’t think I’m trying to compare BG success to Arena success...
I had fun in WSG last night for the first time in a very long time. #2 on HK, #3 in damage, and #2 in Killing blows, admittedly I came in behind an Arms warrior but he did have several pieces of his furious set (including the weapon) here’s the thing though, I JUST BARELY came in behind him in. The #3 sot was filled by another fury warrior.

Ok so basically I found that putting points into precision is futile, simply because my gear had more than enough hit for PVP (5%). What I also found extremely MIND NUMBING AWESOME and effective was using ALL my CD as often as possible. Deathwish, recklessness, PVP trinket and racial AP buff. When used in conjunction on a single target I was able to get back to what I used to refer to as the “intercept-meltface-mode” this is where I intercept and within the 2-3 second stun window MELT FACE. The onlything that didn’t burn up like dross were DK’s and pallys.

Priest got there bubbles popped
Mages tried to blink away after taking massive damage only to find me on them again almost instantly
Hunters go ahead and jump back it matters not for I will be at you again in a moment
Rogues stun me if you’d like I’m just banking that rage for a whirlwind and when you try to vanish and run away I’m going to eat you
Shammy don’t go ghost wolf and run it only makes the second intercept sting that much more
Warlocks oh that 8k chaos bolt you hit me with earlier sucked, but how does the intercept 9K combo feel with an additional 2k in white damage?
Warriors – I feel your pain but now I’m going to inflict some damage to you if you’re arms keep in mind I’m going to be healing here so I’ll widdle you down, if your fury chances are I’m just better than you LOL Jk

On DK & Paly
DK – Ok while I didn’t quite destroy you I did notice I was more effective in fighting you. More burst damage against you really helps, plus now I can heal to got damn it.
Pally – I hate you. This was about a 40/60 split in most cases, you heal more than me, you stun more than me and you bubble more than me. Cowards.

FURY IN PVE
So after some fun in BG’s the guild calls for some dps. Unbeknownst to them I’d respeced fury. I get the summon and a prompt:
Guild: WTF you doing in PVP gear.
Me: just came from bg.
Pause...

WTF YOU DOING FURY?
Me: lets just go...

Start on patch first which we all know is the melee measure stick. In arms I was pulling 2.4-2.8. With fury I hit 3.1k... hmmm
Grob – Same increase in DPS
Thad – same.

Overall I tend to be in the top 10 for dps depending on who from my guild is there, I broke top 5 last night...as fury...

HOW:
Again it goes back to the spec.
WITH NO PRECISION I was at 12% hit...all from gear, so why dump 3 points there.
I’d originally speced PVP mind you so I didn’t put any points into the INSTANT SLAM and opted for the MS debuff so can you imagine if I was able to instant slam as well?

I’m going to keep people up on how this works out as time goes forward. I found that if I used recklessness, then gave about a 10 second count then used death wish, then gave it about another 10 second count then used my trinket + racial I was able to keep the BOOM BOOM PEW PEW really high up there. Rather than just poping everything at once I found using these three CD kept my DPS at a consistant level of coolness.

Keep in mind I did all this with a jawbone and a titansteel destroyer.
Earlier I said you could not make fury work until you got 2 212 dps weapons, I think for today I’ll revise that and say you need at least ONE 25 man weapon and at least a titansteel destroyer. You want to spec to be abel to use deathwish and recklessness as often as possible too.

I glyphed for whirlwind
BT increase in healing
And Increased enraged regen

Keep in mind the last two glyphs were designed for BG longevity and not DPS. Tonight when I start in on raids again I will most likely replace with some DPS type glyphs, heroic strike and...well hell not to sure what the other one will be.

CAN ANYONE ATTEST TO ANY OF THIS? I mean the mantra has been FURY SUCKS since last patch...but does it really? And why does it. Can we not get a serious discussion as to why things haven’t been working?

The 10% nerf really hurts stupid math says if you were pulling 4k dps previously you’re now pulling 3.6k (still a respectable number)

HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK WITH FURY POST 3.2 and what is your secret?

Malacor on things that make you go hmmmm (Arena play)

Ugh…..that’s about how I’m feeling right now.

I finally started doing 2v2 again, finally found another resto druid, and it turns out I also fond some great big road blocks. We were doing just fine, we got up to about the 1400 bracket and we discovered what I like to call, Bullshyt Teams.

I had a 30 min fight with a Prot Pally/DK team. Apparently it’s trendy for a Paladins to go prot just to piss me off. For 10 min we tried to kill this DK, every time we got close, we would get cycloned, or he would get bubbled or we would get repentanced, or HoJ, or the other bubble.

I wanted to kill myself a little bit, I mean I have to buy a new game card tomorrow and I really was debating spending another 30 bucks on this aneurism of a team. I mean it was ridiculous. It’s a TANK who can BUBBLE and STUN and HEAL, and gets mana from hitting you. At one point, I HS crit him through a shield for 3.

Not 3k
Not 300
3.

Now the way you beat this team is to have your druid CC the one being healed and LoS the DK from the Healer. Easier said then done…since we don’t have an ability that grabs someone and pulls them through the air, half way across the zone to you. Every time we got that pally into cyclone, the DK would just sit there and Airhump the pally’s leg. After 30 min we finally lost…thank god. We lost 6 points. They gained 42….Ugh, that’s just embarrassing.

That’s another problem were having. Every time we lose a match we lose about 16 points. When we win we get about 8. If we win 2:1 games, we still break even….I don’t know what’s up…maybe it has something to do with the fact that I haven’t done arenas since WoTLK?

The 3rd Question that I’m hoping someone can help me out with (comment below) is PvE gear in arenas. I saw a few warriors doing it, and I’m assuming the benefit is to gain the ArP, but that leaves the question of how much resil should you gear for before mixing? I can’t seem to find any info on it anywhere. I’ve been keeping at about 300 resil, rest Naxx/Uld gear and its been working pretty well so far.

Speaking of Uld, I’m face down during another wipe as I’m writing this; I had to spec fury, because the raid deemed the 5% crit from rampage necessary. Incase the point hasn’t been made clear on this site. Fury. Still. Sucks.

On a final note, I know I promised an Enchant guide to go along with my Inscription/Gem guide, and I will put it out as soon as 3.2 Drops, there’s a few profession changes that might make a difference.
In the mean time, I’ve been debating between going a gear guide for going into heroics, nax, and uld OR writing boss guides, and what your warrior roll is during the fight. So my question to you is, which would you rather see? I’ll ultimately do both at some point, but in the intrist of time, I wanted your opinions. (see opinion poll to the right)

Fury Vs. Arms - I guess the battle still continues

Prompted by recent events, like getting a new weapon, as well as recent comments made in the Glyph section and an interesting conversation I had with Jaxton (I know that might not be the right name dude but I’ll fix it when I get home lol) I decided to give Fury in PVP a whirl...wind.

If you go back through the history of Titan’s grip you can see just how quickly I fell in love with the idea and the game play, in fact if you look back at my titan grip related posts (http://warrior-guides.blogspot.com/search/label/Titan%27s%20Grip) you can see I’ve always been a great fan of it. In fact I admitted to my warrior friend from last night that I sometimes respect in hopes that it works out, in a way it’s been like a dark secret of mine. Akin to smoking in the bathroom or doing something you know you’re not supposed to be doing.

I know several times I’ve lied to my arena partner so I could feed my addiction...

Partner: Hey man what you doing wanna run some arena?
Blackthought: Ah man I can’t I am helping a friend in BG’s get some gear. (respecing as I’m typing)
Partner: Cool, hit me up later.
Blackthought: Alright (screaming at computer because fury is frustrating)
About 20 mins he finds me in Org waiting to Que for a battleground

Totalchaos: Hey man did you spec fury?
ME: lol nah my son did :( (yes I blame my 6 year old son for all the bone head things I do in game)

It’s a dark little secret, I suppose it wouldn’t be so bad if it just didn’t hurt so much. When Titan’s Grip came out EVERYONE, warrior or not, was like, “wow that’s cool”. Titan’s Grip is what made warriors different again, it made us a unique class. Go ahead think about something that makes us different, can’t can you. Warrior skills have slowly but surely been given to everyone else and the ONE TIME we finally get something that we can call our own it turns into one of two talents that actually PENALIZE YOU for spending a talent point (in case you’re wondering the other is juggernaut...another warrior skill.)

So like I said I respeced fury last night because that berserking warrior in me again wanted to wield two weapons vs. one. Again my heart was left broken and my face was left rolled

Fury sucks in comparison to ARMS pvp, essentially you only have 2 attacks. Whirlwind and BT. Everything else is just filler. Intercept is nice again I really do miss a 3 second stun, but found that for the first 2.78 seconds I’m sitting there waiting to get rage. Meanwhile my stunned target is using any number of skills to hurt me badly.

Your net usefulness is reduce by 15% in TG+Zerker stance. (10% damage reduction + 5% damage taken increase) means you’re going into a fight with the chips already stacked heavily against you...

You’re only applying instant damage every 4 seconds, and that is ranging anywhere from 1.5k-8k, which doesn’t quite stack up to ARMS. Not counting bladestorm because you can only use it every so often you’re simply hitting more with ARMS as Execute, Overpower and Mortal strike are usable WAY more often that WW BT.

What about burst damage? Well in an arena setting it’s nice if you’re doing LARGE, really large burst damage, otherwise you can do moderate damage that is most likely going to be healed up again. What about the “mortal strike like” debuff, well it doesn’t always apply so even if you are hitting 2k more burst if it’s healed like nothing what does it matter?

In BG’s it’s nice but I found myself beating something to within an inch of it’s life only to be stuck staring at them while I waited 4 seconds to hit them again...
Do you have any idea how much damage a rogue or mage does in 4 seconds? Let me help you. A mage can pull upwards of 3-4dps a second (this is very modest btw)

So if you give a mage 3-4 seconds that’s 9-16k damage you’re going to take while you wait to hit him with another round of burst for 4-8k...

I’m going to give fury ONE MORE SHOT at winning me over tonight. I’m going to run in with some Arena’s and see how things pan out.

If it fails I’ll post it here and give my final fury verdicts, which will probably read : DON’T USE FURY TILL YOU HAVE TWO (2) 212 DPS weapons, and even then do not use it in PVP Arena. BG’s go ape shyt.

But let’s wait and see till tonight

Jaxtor I’ll see you on tonight and I accept your killing blow challenge. I’ll help you out with a little macro:
/Cast Recklessness
/Cast blood lust
/Cast Deathwish
/Use Attackpower trinket

Wow Auction House Mastery - Gold Guiding at its finest

So as you can probably tell I love me some Dugis guides. Well again I’m pleased to announce that team Dugis is on the verge of coming out with an all new Warcraft Guide.

Staying true to form, from what I see this guide is going to be top notch, bar none THE gold guide to have. About 99% of it is going to be video so there’s no “fluff”, just flat out LEARN TO MAKE GOLD FAST advice. The guide will be launching soon, it is Warcraft Auction House Mastery.

What’s funny is I’ve been writing up a quick money making guide and was on the verge of dropping some of it this week but with the release of this Warcraft Auction House Mastery I think I’ll hold off another week (in a nut shell it involved Titansteel and me making 1k G in about 2 hours without having to leave Org.)

So a little more on Warcraft Auction House Mastery:..
Created in part by Mayley Winter and polished off by Team Dugis the starting video shows Mayley creating a character

This is something that you have GOT TO SEE..
http://opendomain.wowam.hop.clickbank.net/

She started with NOTHING, NADA, ZERO...well some grey items I suppose

And did it as a level 5 characterIn just 4 hours she made 1000g!...at level 5. I didn’t make my first 1000g until level 60ish :(

She does all this without hacks or cheats or any outside help, no runs, no loans...NADA.

Also make sure you watch the follow up video Which explains her secret a bit more in the EARLY MEMBER area...Its all free to watch and download right now, she's going to remove them when the website officially opens.
It's *definitely* 100% worth checking out quickly opt-in and check out the additional videos. I know a lot of gold guides out there tell you how to make gold in the Auction House but none of them explain it as well as this. Enjoy the Videos :-)

I'm going to keep a close eye on this guide, Mayley mentioned that she's giving a ton of free stuff to celebrate the official opening.

I’ve heard rumor of a contest as well so I’ll keep people posted on this one.

Warrior Guides - Now with more PEW PEW

Well it looks like it has been an amazing upgrade week so far for us here at Warrior Guides! Black picked up his brand new shiny beat stick, The Jawbone!

I myself made a lot of progress in the farming for my Greatness Card; I’m about 65% there, maybe less with repair bills for the upcoming week. I also discovered I love ArP WAY more than I thought I did, I replaced by t7 legs with Legplates of Double Strikes for the ArP and I received by t8.5 chest last night too. Conqueror’s Siegebreaker Battleplate

I gained about 156 ArP bring my total to 434, which has been a major DPS upgrade (I was pulling 5k on some bosses in Uld25 and ridiculous number on trash, thanks to bladestorm.)

I did lose my Exp Cap from replacing the pants, but it hasn’t affected my performance at all. The only dilemma is that if I go for my 4 peace set bonus I need the pants or the shoulders. The pants have NO ArP on them so I would lose a lot, and the shoulders drop off of Yogg-Saron which were still progressing on in 25man.

And just to reinforce what Black already said, Farm Flame Leviathan for Ironsoul! Its loaded down with ArP, it’s a Mace, and well hell…its just amazing.

What all this really means for you is that you your warrior guides now kick even more ass and are gonna be bring you more hard hitting tips soon.

P.S. <3 ArP

NEW WEAPON....FINALLY!

Oh what a glorious evening it was last night for MONTHS I’ve been trying to get a weapon out of 25 man nax...literally MONTHS. I’ve had 6 rolls on Betrayer of Humanity, 2 rolls on Armageddon, 3 rolls on Crypt Fiends Bite, 4 rolls on Death’s Bite....and NOTHING...not a damn thing, I was fortunate enough to get a Wrath Spear out of 10 man Nax though...

Until last night that is.

So it’s nothing ground breaking AWESOME but it does have a higher DPS rating and top end damage (which if you’re ARMS you want to have...hell even if you’re fury)

I got the Jawbone. So I will be respecing maces tonight and putting some of the ArP theory to the test in PVP...again but now with more knowledge, and possibly a little more gemming for ArP...possibly.

So while I have the Jawbone now I will still be farming Flame Leviathan in Uldar for an upgrade. Which if you’re not already doing start doing immediately. 10 man uldar drops easy loot...seriously it’s probably the only RAID boss that has ever really 2 manable on 10 man and 4 manable on 25 man...GET YOUR BUT INTO FL 10 MAN weekly. The weapon drop is better than Betrayer of Humanity.

Warrior PVP Guide: Alterac Valley– Horde AV Guide

AV has always been my favorite Battleground, I learned so much from it that I was able to practice here and take what I’d learned into Arena’s as well as other BG’s. In times memorial Horde had a much closer starting point to the midfield so in TBC before it was changed Horde had an unfair advantage and thus the prevailing MO for an AV was for Horde to Zerg and Alliance to repell and then zerg...

Notice in the end both side still Zerg. Which takes from the BG but it is a necessity.
Keep in mind that in order for this strategy to work you have to have a solid 15 people buying into the method, otherwise EVERYONE does the typical and zergs...15 people is enough to change the battle though on either side.

Some VERY basic GROUND RULES.
1. If you cap it stay with it till it burns. In AV once you capture a spot it makes no sense to run off if it’s just going to be recapped.
2. Both sides have a GY they should NEVER cap...never, eva, eva, eva cap Snowfall GY if your HORDE and Frostwolf if your Ally. For Ally you can cap it once you have the relief hut. But horde NEVER EVER cap snowfall.
3. Don’t waste time turning stuff in. While the idea was novel and while summoning Lok is bad ass, if you spend time doing this you will fail.
4. Realize that AV is about controlling the field and the sooner you can do this the better

I’m going to give a horde view on this first simply because I know it best (ally Alterac Valley Guide to soon follow).

HORDE IN ALTERAC VALLEY
First things first...STOP ZERGING... seriously as of WOTLK trying to Zerg in Alterac Valley is AT BEST a 30/70 success ratio. We no longer have an advantageous starting point, BUT we have the ability to out maneuver because if we recognize this then we can accomplish a victory. Below is a general order of events on how things should work...its very brief with more analysis below.

Order of Events in Alterac Valley
1.
AT LEAST 15 people need to head over to our base to defend the relief hut and towers (THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE GAME)
2. Everyone else Zerg (it’s a controlled Zerg)
3. 3 people Cap Stoneheart Bunker
4. Cap Stoneheart GY (2 people MUST stay behind to make sure this caps)
5. Cap Icewing Bunker
6. Cap Stormpike GY
7. Cap Stormpike Aid Station
8. Cap DB North and DB South
9. THIS IS THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT THING. STAY IN DB NORTH AND DB SOUTH TILL THEY CAP.
10. THIS IS THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT THING. STAY IN DB NORTH AND DB SOUTH TILL THEY CAP. (yes I said it 2x because some people just don’t get it)
11. Wait for towers to cap and Kill VAN

This is the simplest quickest way for horde to win AV. AV is a giant race in a sense. Ally run up one side, horde run up another whoever kills the other side’s leader first wins. If both teams were to head out on a foot race and not stop to cap anything Ally win by nature of the distance and time to travel from their starting point to the Horde side, keeping this in mind a simple foot race is not going to win anything for the Horde.

Alterac Valley Step 1: So how do you win? If you noticed in step 1, the most important step, 15 people went to defend the base. They do this to delay, even if it’s only for a few minutes the capping of the horde towers and basically buy enough time for the horde Zerging force to eliminate the competition and get to the ally towers first.

The longer the 15 hold out on defense the more probably it is that the Horde win in Alterac Valley.

Alterac Valley Step 4 is also very important. As noted on the map by blue squares you can see there are four bottle necks in the AV map. One right below the Iceblood GY, one right above the Stonehearth GY, one near the Ally bridge, and one right inside the horde base.

If ally control the Iceblood GY it’s easy to prevent any horde from moving past this point. That’s ok though if you run right at the GY, so long as the Zerging group has done their job of capturing Stonehearth Gy then when you die you will res at Stonehearth (Purple Oval).

Alterac Valley Steps 3 & 5-7 are pretty much just for bonus honor and you will seldom find an ally coming back to recap these points I believe they may decrease Van’s damage output but you can win AV without capping these items...you just don’t get the same honor.

Alterac Valley Steps 8-10 are very crucial and will determine if you win or lose. You can perform the rest of the steps flawlessly but screwing up step 8, 9&10 will make everything the 15 defenders did completely worthless. Once you assault the Southern and Northern bunkers STAY THERE TILL THEY CAP. You have to remember the 15 defends were there to give you the extra few seconds you needed to gain the edge and win. So if you assault a tower and leave it and the Ally recap it you just blew it. More often than not this is where groups fail. 1-2 guys cap the tower and then EVERYONE leaves and sits out front of Van’s base, meanwhile a rogue or druid has snuck in and is resetting the cap timers, meanwhile the ally have already assaulted your towers and NO ONE is there to recap them because of the bottle neck in the horde base.

So yes points 9 & 10 are the same because as you can see if you do not do this than the ally towers will cap first and they will beging killing Drek first and thus win.
Alterac Valley Step 11 I hope this is pretty self evident on what to do.

Winning as a Horde in AV is really not that difficult once you get passed the idea that you cannot COMPLETELY Zerg it. You’re pretty much guaranteed a victory if you stick to this method.

Even if the ally completely defend because of the nature of the map we still have an advantage even if all 40 of them decide to defend...as we’ll simply cap more towers on the way to them.

Also please pay special attention to the LARGE YELLOW X. This is the Snowfall GY. You DO NOT WANT TO CAP THIS. If you do ALL the ally you kill will res in their original starting point, which allows them to play defense. By not capping this you force them to res at Snowfall and thus leave their base defenseless while you are free to destroy their base AND they are very...very far away from the offensive end so anyone who stayed behind to defend is now out of the game for around 45 seconds or so.

How you fit in as a warrior in Alterac Valley

As most of the fight is hopefully a zerg you need to push hard and hit hard. IF things turn into a fight the same rule of thumb needs to be taken into account on attacking casters first.

Shoot for the back caster or healers, especially the casters, AV is known for it’s AoE festivities. 2 warlocks a mage and a hunter can really dish out massive amounts of AoE damage on a large number of people so the quicker you hit them and nuke them kill them. As people like to group up in AV your intimidating shout (fear bomb) is an awesome tool for disrupting heals and attacks from 5 people.

If you haven’t given it a try I’d suggest running AV as a prot warrior. Reason being is that you survive most of the damage and you can Shockwave large groups of casters giving your team the edge. I was once in an AV as a prot warrior where I literally have 2x the HK’s as ANYONE in the entire BG...and thus the most honor, AND I’d only died twice.

The Ally Alterac Valley Guide will follow soon in another post.

Warrior Gems & Glyphs - Prot, Arms & Fury

Gemming and Glyping for the PvE Soul.
Hey everyone! There’s a lot of questions going around regarding the most efficient way to glyph and gem your gear for maximum efficiency….and Today we’re gonna cover just that!

-Protection Warrior Gems and Glyphs-

Prot Glyphs
As far as glyphs go, it’s pretty straight forward you have 3 minor and 3 major to work with and for a prot warrior your glyphs are generally the same for any situation.

The must have glyph for tanking is:

Glyph of Shield Slam-Increases your block value by 10% for 10 sec after using your Shield Slam ability.
The CD on Shield Slam is only 6 seconds, so that means a constant 10% block increase.
Since prot warriors gained AoE tanking abilities; I’ve felt the need to abuse that as much as possible because I come from a tanking time where nothing but Paladins ruled the mulit-mob tanking.

For the two last prot warrior glyph I find there’s nothing better than Glyph of Devastate with Glyph of Sunder Armor

Now while your tanking you NEVER use Sunder Armor, instead you need to use Devastate to stack sunders, with this match up your devastates will stack two at a time on your main target. Glyph of Sunder Armor plus Glyph of Devastate results in two sunders on the primary target and one sunder on the secondary target. This is amazing for warrior AoE tanking if you’re working with 2-4 mobs at a time. Now many warriors might want to switch out the devastate glyph for the Glyph of Shockwave. for AoE tanking as well. That is by no means a bad idea. In fact, you should try both and see which ones works better for you.

As for Minor Glyphs, you really only have 4 prot warrior glyphs to choose from so it’s really up to you. The most popular choices are: Glyph of Bloodrage, Glyph of Charge, and Glyph of Thunder Clap.

Prot Gems
As far as gems go, it’s pretty simple. When you fist start out tanking heroics, you want to gem out for Defense rating (yellow) until you get up to the Def Cap which is 540.
Once you hit that magic number, you want to gem out for either Str which will give you block, or Stam which of course will pump up your HP.

Your tanking stats will scale with your gear and as you get more gear you can start replacing your def gems with stam and block. Just make sure your keep at or above your DefCap.

-Arms Warrior Gems & Glyphs-

ARMS Glyphs
For your PvE Arms needs, the following are pretty standard Arms warrior Glyphs: Glyph of Mortal Strike, Glyph of Rending, and Glyph of Execution

Quick rundown: Glyph of Rending is your Jesus glyph! It’s a MUST have. As a PvE Arms warrior, your main priority is to keep rend up at all times, the extra 6 seconds is an extra 6 seconds of straight up, ass-kicking, dps you can do before you have to take out time to refresh your rend.

10% Extra MS Damage is pretty obvious…you smash harder.

Now The Glyph of Execution is amazing with your Sudden Death talent. It adds a flat 380 dmg increase, before armor and armor pen. Yummy.

For minor, once again, it doesn’t really matter. I use Battle, Bloodrage, and Charge.

ARMS GEMS
As a general rule, do not ever gem for crit. When your first start out raiding and doing heroics, you have to work on making sure you are Hit Capped.

It doesn’t matter how hard you hit something, if you always miss it.

-ARMS- Hit cap – 262.32,

-Yellow cap – 262.32-

-Expertise Cap – 148 w/ Weapon Mastery, 215 without.”

At first you want to make sure to gem for hit until you reach your cap. Once you get capped and get more and more gear, you won’t even have to gem for it or even worry about it. Naxx gear and especially Uld gear is loaded with hit. Expertise Cap is really a choice, if you stand behind your target (YOU NEED TO BE) then it’s not really a problem. Also with better gear you won’t even have to worry about it.

Once you’re all set up in your hit caps, the question arises: Strength or ArP?
That’s the question everyone is asking. I’ve researched this until I wanted to scratch my eyes out, and this is my simple conclusion.

ArP is better than Str, and it gets better the more of it you have. However, if you have a small amount your better off with Str.

So what do you do? Gem Str, until you get into higher end raids, where the gear is loaded with ArP. Once you get around 25 or 30% from your gear then GEM GEM GEM for Armor Penetration (ArP).

-Fury Warrior Gems & Glyphs-

Fury Glyphs
If you’ve chosen to raid as a fury warrior even after the 10% dmg nerf than you’re a bigger man than I, unless you have two Uldar weapons you’re doing less damage...period.

Top 3 choices are: Glyph of Whirlwind, Glyph of Heroic Strike, Glyph of Execution/Cleaving.

Lower CD on Whirlwind=more usage, which means more DPS.
More Rage from Heroic Strike= More Rage to spend on Whirlwind.

The Split between Execution and Cleaving is, once again, a personal choice.

Fury GEMS
Gemming for a fury warrior very similar to Arms

First thing first you need to get at hit cap:

-FURY- Hit cap – 688.59 with 3/3 precision (which is not what you want) you should get to 260-295 with 3/3 precision.

-Yellow cap – 163.95 with 3/3 precision, 262.32 without.

-Expertise cap – 215

Get your Hit and Exp Capped first. Now with Fury, you also do not want to gem with Crit, unless your Crit is very low (under 25%)
You want to gem your fury warrior for Str and a lot of it.

A note on gemming a warrior in General, DO NOT GEM AP. 1 str=2 ap anyway and str will scale more with raid buffs (i.e. BoK) than AP ever will.

We’ll hopefully your eyes don’t hurt after reading all of that lol. Thanks for reading my first major post, Happy Smashing!

Screw You That's MY Weapon - Malacor on Need Rolls and Weapon Upgrades

Hey there, everybody! Hope you guys are all doing well, today I thought I’d give these personal stories a shot! Now this story is probably the most depressing thing from my WoW life, but it has a great lesson in it so I’m going to share. Now this tale comes from way back when in BC when my guild had just begun progress on SSC, actually a few months before too, but we’ll get there.

For those of you who don’t remember the specifics of warrior tanking back in BC, it revolved a lot around the speed of your weapon, slow weapon=slow tps. Also in BC there was a great shortage of GOOD weapons. Now I had already been into SSC, but I was using this dinky BoE blue wep, just for its speed, that most of you might remember. I ran kara every week to try to get Kings Defender, which was the shit, but to no avail. (One you all will come to know about me is that I am very unlucky.) There was a long wait list for Mallet of the Tides, so that was out.

So that leaves two choices really. The sword form Exalted Honor Hold or a little sword called, The Sun Eater from heroic mech. At 70, it was a total pain in the ass to get HH rep all the way up, because Shattered Halls was the Oculus of BC, so in other words, it made you want to cut your eye out and stick your head in a salt mil.

So for three months I grinded H-mech like a sex crazed panther in heat. I would wake up in the morning and do it before classes, and come back to try again after the reset. Meanwhile I would keep on raiding with the same results. Needless to say I learned everything there is to know about that godforsaken place, even the most optimal group make up. This freaking sword just wouldn’t drop.

But after three months I finally got lucky! I make it all the way to the end, and guess what drops!? [The Sun Eater]! In all of its purple-ly greatness.

Malacor Need Rolls for 11.
[Malacor]: YES!!!!
[Fackoh]:GRATS!!! :D

[Other group members]: Oooahhh.
JackassPaladinHealer’sName Need Rolls for a 94.
No….no….NOOOOOOOO!
JackassPaladinHealer’sName has gone offline.

So yea, I got slammed by the ninja bat, everyone can take a moment to QQ if you’d like for me ^_^

Done? Good. Me too.

So I was so tired of Heroic Mech after that I never did it again, so I went to my only other option…the painful HH grind. Long story short, the next month I was swinging away with a brand new rep sword, my TPS went way up, and I was in all epics FINALLY! And wouldn’t you know it, two days later it was my turn for Mallet of the Tides (3rd best tanking wep in BC)

Okay so this taught me a few things. Always take the guaranteed upgrade over the chance. Because the more you upgrade your gear, the higher end stuff your get into and the better gear you’ll get from there.

So next time your doing your Naxx 25 pugg or whatever it is your doing, and you win that shinny new peace and some dps says to you, ‘oh wait. If you give me that I’ll pass on (something else you want here)” Don’t Do It. Well, unless you really want to, I can’t control what you do.

But look at it this way. You have this item in front of you and it will benefit you, and that other item, has a chance of not even dropping. And IF IT DOES, you have the SAME CHANCE of winning it as you did winning the peace in front of you.

P.S. For those of you wondering I did see that ninja again, in WOTLK we are both DPS. It was in a 25man naxx pug. I’m in an end game raiding guild and pulled 4.3k dps in the particular pug. He’s guild-less and topped at 1800.

Karmah, huh?

Fury Warrior PVP - Weapons...You must have them

Fury has been in slight trouble since last patch in both the PVP and PVE department, its 10% damage reduction with Titan’s Grip left many a warrior, myself included, headed for the respect trainer. After being in love with Fury and titan’s grip for it’s large damage bursts and having been fury since right around level 40ish I took it exceptionally hard, but times change and so must we in order to survive. ...
All this stuff above is the set up mind you.

After being ARMS spec now for a few months, and loving it mind you, I decided to try running some fury again. The idea of two big nasty weapons vs. one big nasty weapon just makes to much sense as warrior...so I did it I respeced and gave fury a go...and boy was I frustrated.

Fury in PVP is pretty much the equivalent of grinding your face against stucco and then pouring salted lemon juice on yourself. It’s painful, you don’t want to ever do it again and while it’s effective at causing a bloody and painful mess...both the pain and the blood belong to you.

OMG was I frustrated. I respeced and hit up any number of battlegrounds (roughly 15 or so) and OMG I had to walk away several times. It’s just SOOOOO frustrating. The burst damage is a joke first off and there is usually a 4 second window between your major attacks EVERYTIME... do you know how many time you get hit in 4 seconds? If it’s not enough that I’m only doing 90% of my damage I’m also taking an additional 5%...

Fury is the epitome of a one legged man in an as kicking contest.

I will say I have seen some people in fury putting up some decent nd respectable numbers in BG’s...unfortunately they are ALL Furious geared...I spoke to one of my fellow warriors about fury pvp (keep in mind this is coming form a near full furious pvper) and he said YES you can PVP in fury, but unless you have REALLY good gear you end up hurting your team.

I’ve been asked reapeatedly, “hey blackthought, can you pvp as fury?”

The answer to this question is yes...but keep in mind you can also pvp with your fishing pole, just because you can do something doesn’t mean it’s good.

If you’re here looking for a fury pvp spec please, please, go ARMS and save yourself the trouble and headaches.

IF you do have two 25 man nax weapons you MIGHT be able to pull it off, but even then I’d wait till you get you some nice Uldar gear and or 2 furious weapons.

If you want my advice...go ARMS (hell or Prot)

Warrior-Guides is pleased to announce our newest member/editor/contributor/ all around ass kicking warrior...Malacor

Rather than give a long winded introduction to Malacor I thought it best if he do it himself:)
Without Further adieux...

From the Mouth of Malacor
“Hey everyone! My name is Malacor, and I’m the latest contributor for Warrior Guides. My main area of expertise is PvE, I was a tank all of BC and saw everything on farm status up to BT, which I wasn’t fortunate enough to continue though due to your run of the mil guild-drama issues. So for the latter bit of BC I found myself expanding my knowledge base into PvP, I made it into the 1800 bracket in season for with 3v3 and the 1750 in 2v2. Now in WOTLK I raid as Arms DPS in a guild that is currently into EndGame Content. We have been attempting Yogg-Saron on 25 man mode, and have him downed on 10-man. We have everything prior fully cleared, and are currently expanding on hard modes in 10 man and some what in 25man as well. My goal here is to help everyone gain a further grasp of PvE knowledge as well as End Game raiding. As well as give incite into the benefits of Engineering. I’ll be helping out Blackthought with writing everything from Boss Starts and what your roll is as a tank or dps, to what gear you should be using and how to glyph, gem, and enchant it out to be all you can be as a warrior. I’m happy to be on board and look forward to hearing from all of you.

ArP, Armor Penetration, & You - Understanding ArP

THIS IS WORTH THE READ...but it is a wall-o-text...and be forewarned there is some math involved...but don’t worry I did it all for you AND put a picture up to make it easier. :(

I’m still trying to research the Arms Pen thing. I read a few good articles but for the most part the advice has been: “Let your armor be your ArP and gem strength and crit”.

I know of a few people who have gemmed completely for ArP both fury and arms both PVE and PVP and quite honestly I to am as lost about a decent amount of ArP to have.

As it stands right now warrior ArP is a budding science and testing is being done on the pvp and pve front. ArP is something you definitely want to get, but how much is the question.

- Now if you’re running nax I wouldn’t worry about it to much as you don’t necessarily need it there.
- If you’re into Uldar then from what I can gather a good rule of thumb is to wait until your gear get’s you to 20-30% ArP then swap over some gems to reach 50% (which is 616 ArP)
- PVP is where things get a bit more...iffy. In a nutshell pvp is about sustainable burst damage (from an offensive standpoint at least) ArP can definitely lend to this, but again lots of testing remains.

Personally I’m still relying on crit, I believe I will be getting a Uldar mace this week and once that happens it’ll be difficult to not spec maces and stack ArP so hopefully we will see where this goes.

Below are the mechanics behind ArP which basically says that there are two numbers used in ArP calculations:
Number 1 – Target Armor
Number 2 – “the Cap”

The % in your tool tip is multiplied against the lower of these two numbers. Number 1 is easy to find, “the Cap” is a little more difficult and requires a small degree of math.

For a level 80 target, C=15232.5. For a level 83, C=16635.
“the Cap”= (Target Armor + C)/3

So basically of “the Cap” and the Target armor the lesser of the two values is selected then multiplied by the % in your tool tip to find just how much armor is reduced.

Take a deep breath
Because the math goes bonkers from here but I put a nice little picture to make it easier for my warrior brethren. (it's a crappy pic but the math is there if you look hard enough)What this picture does is basically identifies the point where your % tool tip effects either the Target Armor or the “the Cap”

At 7617 target armor we see that a level 80 is no longer having their ARMOR reduce, but rather “the Cap”. This is important because we can see that a 30% ArP affects things differently beyond this point (yellow line)

The green shows that the target armor is less than the “the Cap” so the 30% is used on the Green to calculate the armor ignored.

The Peach color shows that “the Cap” is less than the target armor so the 30% is used on the Peach to calculate the Armor Ignored.

Based on this we can see that a target with 1000 armor being hit with ArP of 30% does in fact have 300(30%) of their armor ignored.

We can also see that a target with 10k Armor has 2523(25%) of their armor ignored, which is less than the tool tip shows.

So to summarize the results the MORE armor something has past 7617 the LESS of a % your actually ArP reduces their armor by. In fact you can see the effectiveness of your ArP hits about 50% when a level 80 target has 30000 armor (druids)

So what does it all mean then...

You will get more bang for your buck attacking low armor targets and it would seam that classes sitting in the 7600 range of armor are the optimal of choice.

Vs plate and such ArP loses some of it’s effectiveness as far as ignored armor.

Once I find some decent numbers to shoot for I will post them here. Below is a link to another decent breakdown of ArP that I found very informative.
http://gurggalicious.blogspot.com/2009/06/armor-penetration-information.html

If you have any input on the ArP situation please feel free to leave a comment so we can all figure this out.

So, the first X armor on the target is reduced by the percentage listed in the Armor Penetration Rating tooltip, and all armor past that X is unaffected. Another way of understanding that is we multiply the percentage in the tooltip times the minimum of the two values: the cap, and the amount of armor on the target after all other modifiers.Computing the cap is a little tricky unless you are already familiar with how World of Warcraft armor works. There is an armor constant we’ll call C. 10 Man Naxx...what you always need to be sure of

So here’s a picture of me sitting on Kel Thuzad’s throne wondering why in the world WOW would allow me to Save to a raid when ALL the raid bosses were already killed.
Here's the text:
Ok I’m getting ahead of myself, let me explain, rewind to 30 mins before this picture was taken...

So there I was in the Org Ah buying up mats and crafting them at a profit (can you say Honed Cobalt Axe?).
I see this in the LFG.

“LF1M dps 10 Man Nax KT Only.”

This works out really well because the only Nax gear I want at this point is an upgrade to my Wraith Spear. As chance has it KT 10 man nax drops an upgrade, so off I go trying to secure that DPS spot.

I get it. I’m happy. I don’t have to clear trash, I don’t have to do much of anything but dodge red cookies and pummel or shield bash from time to time...

Well 10 minutes pass and I finally get a summons. We all get our “assignments” from the raid leader and off we go to fight KT...or so we thought.

“Everyone into the circle”...everyone goes into the circle.
Blackthought Says: “Uh...where’s KT at?”
.
.
.
RAID QQ like never before seen erupts.

I clearly see that KT is not in fact there. I clearly see that my 10 man for the week is done now. I clearly see a verbal assault coming on the guy who set the raid up. So I takes my seat on KT’s throne and watch the:

“WTF”, “OMG”, “I HOPE YOU DIE”, etc, etc run up and down the raid.

I simply insert my own “LOL” & WTF.

To me that’s just funny.

For my slower warrior brethren what basically happened was we went to fight KT but someone had already cleared him out and the guy who was organizing the raid didn’t know that so he saved like 7 new people to a raid that had been ninja’d.

Lessons of the week:
1. If you’re organizing a raid make sure the damn thing hasn’t been ninja’d
2. If you’re joining a raid...make sure the damn thing hasn’t been ninja’d

Northrend Dailies Quest Guide – WOTLK Dailies Guide

Northrend Dailies Quest Guide – WOTLK Dailies
The latest in Dugis WOTLK Leveling guides was released not to long ago and it’s been damn fun actually. They recently put out their Northrend Dailies Quest Guide, which is basically an addition to there leveling add on.

I suppose it wouldn’t take a genius to take the same know how they used in creating their leveling guide and dump that into an in game mod for dailies. Well in fact it didn’t take a genius and that’s exactly what Dugis did. They took the know how they had from creating one of the games best leveling guides and threw all that knowledge at a Northrend dailies quest guide

Now instead of flying (or running) around aimlessly trying to decide if you need to do x first then y or y then x, Dugi’s Northrend Dailies quest guide basically gives you an optimal route to use in order to go from 0 rep and no gold to Exalted rep and lots of gold in a short amount of time.

Here’s what’s really sad. WOW has been around for quite some time and Dailies have been around for almost as long and this is the first in game dailies quest mod out there.

If you haven’t given it a try yet you have to check it out. For more info on Dugi’s Dailies Quest Guide, which is basically an in game walkthrough of all the WOTLK dailies, check it out below. Simply click on the image and get ready to get some rep and gold. (25 dailies in 2 hours)

LF1M Heroic Blog - Warrior Help Wanted Apply within

So based on what the polls have shown concerning who visits and who reads:
67% of you are Level 80
12% are just starting out.

50% of you want PVP information
The other 50% is split equally between Raiding Info and Leveling info

What this tells me is that the sooner I get to arena posts the happier the majority of people will be.
But alas I have two more battle grounds in the PVP guide to get through and it’s very hard...but rest assured it will be done.

I’m going to be going over some of the mechanics behind what we warriors do so keep an eye out for that post. I was shocked at just how many people don’t use Overpower to reduce casting damage and healing. I was very shocked at learning how many people don’t live by hamstring. I was very shocked to hear how few people use intimidating shout. Basically I’m seeing a lot of things about warriors that I don’t like that I see people doing for god knows what reason. So here’s what I’m going to do.
1. Organize the blog a little better.
2. Get a very cookie cutter list of what warriors need to have/do
3. Get more indepth analysis.

So basically you can expect to see a little more organization.
Some good stuff for the 1-79 crowd.
Some even better stuff for the 80 crowd.

Here’s the thing though. I need some help.

Did you know a warrior has 3 specs and any number of specs AND each one is very unique. Did you know I’m but one man?

So I’m looking for 1...maybe 2 “contributors”. There will be SOME degree of payment involved with this as well. So yeah there it is on the table.
I will be accepting “applications” until I can find 1...maybe 2 people to help me out with content stuff.

Email me if you are interested or want some more details.

New Blog Layout 3 Column Blog

This post is to give special thanks to the creator of this blog:

How to Kill a Paladin & Negative Camping Warrior PVP

A quick ARMS PVP note:
While farming Titanium ore out in Wintergrasp I happened upon an ally Paladin. I wasn’t in kill a pally mode so I opted to go around him. He opted to try and kill me. I always travel in Wintergrasp in my PVP set because on more than one occasion have I had to stomp someone into the snow.

Unfortunately for this Paladin I’d recently been running Arena with a Holy Pally and respected. I found that because the pally can give me a decent AP buff it was more beneficial for me to have Second wind and Blood Craze procing to help keep me alive a little bit longer than it was to go for the improved battle/commanding shout. I wanted to tool around with the spec a little and it’s working ok for now.
So back to the Ally paladin.

I’m minding my own business and he get’s the bright idea to stun me. I don’t know what the skill is but if a pally stuns you, especially 1v1, and you see hammers swirling around you can count on 5-8k+ crits visiting you soon, so now when a pally stuns me I trink out asap to get around the initial pain. Once that’s done in 1v1 especially it’s very easy to kite a pally as a warrior. I Hamstring him, and mortal strike, rend him then run away. Get out of range and charge stun him and hit him again a few times. His stun effect is about ready again (20 sec CD) so what I did was timed using my bladestorm right when I thought his stun was coming up. What this allowed me to do was really lay into him and put him on the defensive.

As soon as bladestorm was over he stunned me and is force to heal himself. Healing at 50% sucks is what I’m told so even though I’m stunned he’s not getting much life back. The stun wears of and now I’m on him. I was able to catch him mid way through his 3rd heal with an intimidating shout so he didn’t get it off, because of second wind the stun he hit me with earlier had healed me up some. I hamstring him again and lay into him. I get him down pretty good with some over powers, executes and mortal strikes, near the 4k mark before he bubbles.

Unfortunately for him I can burst his bubble. I normally don’t do this in arena but as he was well mortal struck AND I’d hit one of his heals with an Overpower (which reduces his healing effectiveness by 50%) he’s only healing at 25% maximum capacity. So he’s still on the defensive big time as he’s at about 6k health. Well he stuns me and tries to put a hurting on me, which he did with a nice 8k crit. Thankfully I got some healing from the Stun with second wind and with the crit from BloodCraze. Couple that with the Enraged regen and all of a sudden I’m back up at like 18-19k health and he’s sitting at 6k still. I hamstring him and let the rends tick away while I run away from him to get into intercept range.

Hope into zerkerstance, hit recklessness, pop my “jack’em up Macro” (which uses bloodlust and my 700AP wintergrasp trinket), then I hit blood rage for some rage. I intercept him, who’s stunning who now, smack him with a 4k mortal strike and a 9k execute. No more pally and I’m sitting pretty at around 17k health

I’m thinking to myself, man talk about a plan gone wrong.

Back to farming titanium. Or not...
Out of no where a hammer smacks me in the back of the head. I pop my trinket and a very frustrated Paladin get’s mortal struck, hamstrung, rended and experiences what I can only describe as a Déjà vu experience.

After this I’m thinking ok I’ve pwned this dude twice ending up at 17k health both times, the second time I actually didn’t even have to use my enraged regen because I did a little bit more kiting around of the pally while my skills came of off CD, hopefully he’s learned his lesson: DON’T MESS WITH BLACKTHOUGHT.

I guess not.
So I’ve created a new term called “Negative Camping” and it’s where you continually run to your death in an attempt to kill someone that is > than you.

Personally if you kill me in world pvp 5 times in a row (which is what me and the pally got to) I’m just gonna admit defeat and leave you alone, especially if the other person isn’t provoking the attack.

So my PVP lesson of the day is this:
- When fighting a ret pally put him on the defensive early so he’s more worried about healing than killing.
- Trinket out of his first stun and hamstring him to get him moving slowly. Then run away to stun him with a charge or intercept and mortal strike rend.
- When his next 6 second stun is coming up again start in on bladestorm. This way he either blows it on you while you can’t be stunned, or he stuns you afterwards.
- When he bubbles use shattering throw to pop his bubble and intimidating shout to stop any casting he might be using.
- use enraged regen at 14k health which if you have 22k health with give you back 4400 health, couple that with any second wind/blood craze healing you might have gotten and you should be just fine.
- Finally, if you are get owned by someone 3 times in pvp and nothing changes in the overall effectiveness of what your’re doing just stop.

Warrior Hit Cap - Arms Hit Cap & Fury Hit Cap

Here are the easy numbers below them are the HOW WE ARRIVED THERE and some theory crafting.

ARMS
- Hit cap – 262.32
- Yellow cap – 262.32
- Expertise Cap – 148 w/ Weapon Mastery, 215 without.

FURY
- Hit cap – 688.59 with 3/3 precision (which is not what you want) you should get to 260-295 with 3/3 precision.
- Yellow cap – 163.95 with 3/3 precision, 262.32 without.
- Expertise cap – 215

To Clarify the Expertise cap & the Rating. We can see that the tool tip on expertise has an "Expertise rating" The rating you are shooting for is 215, while the small number that shows up in your stats area should be approximately 27 (which is the 19 in the pic below.)
THEORY CRAFTING: Behind the numbers

Yellow Cap and White Cap
- White Cap – At level 80, a warrior has a 5%(163.95) chance to miss on a regular white attack. If you duel wield that goes up to 24%
- Yellow Cap – Yellow attacks are your special attacks and the hit cap for both Fury and Arms warriors is the same 5% (163.95)

PVE Hit Rating ARMS & FURY = Arms 8% 263, Fury 8-9% 265-290
The 5% hit rating may be a bit misleading, but let me explain. 5% is what you need to hit another level 80 and never miss, raid bosses are not level 80 they are level 83. With this in mind the hit rating for both ARMS & FURY is roughly 8%.

The formula behind how to calculate hit can be expressed below:
32.79 hit rating = 1% hit rating
SO.... 32.79 x 8 = 262.32 which is THE magic number, i.e. it’s the hit cap for yellow attacks.

ARMS warriors – The white and yellow hit cap (assuming you’re only wielding one weapon) is a solid 8%
Fury Warriors – The yellow hit cap remains a solid 8%, but because the chance to miss from duel wielding is 24% on white damage the cap is 786.96 (which is outlandish) there is no need to cap for the white damage as a fury warrior. Tests have show that the best range for Fury warriors to be in is somewhere between 265-290 with precision 3/3.

EXPERTISE = Arms 148, Fury 215

If you don’t know by now: ALWAYS STAND BEHIND YOUR TARGET AS A MELEE ATTACKER

There are several reasons for staying behind your target. First and foremost is that you cannot be parried or blocked from behind; you can still be dodged however. Secondly most bosses deal damage in a cone in front of them...there is no sense in standing in front of them. Thirdly, some bosses have counter attacks, buffs & such that are triggered if they are dodged or parried.

What this translates into is that Expertise Rating will really only benefit your chance to be dodged since you cannot be parried while attacking from behind.

Much like hit cap the same 32.79 = 1% still applies to the Expertise Cap. As the dodge for each boss changes a consensus has been reached after testing that 6.5% chance to dodge is what most bosses’ average.

So if you take 6.5 x 32.79 = 213.13, which I’ve rounded up to 215 for ease.

Arms Warriors – if you’re using tactical mastery (which you should be using) you have a 2% chance increase to not be dodged. So you’re cap is 4.5% or 148.

Warrior PVP Guide: Eye of The Storm – How to be successful in WOTLK PVP Part. 6

Eye of the Storm is basically a hybrid of WSG and AB. It’s capture the flag + king of the hill all rolled up into one convenient package.
Objective: Capture the flag and be king of the hill

I’m going to assume you know the layout for reference I’m going to use the terms Upper Left(UP), Upper Right (UR), Lower Left(LL) and LR(Lower Right) to denote the 4 different towers. I’m doing this because if you’re horde your LL is different from alliance LL as the map is flipped. I’ll also use the term MID to denote the flag spot.

Eye of the Storm is very similar in nature to Arathi Basin a semi decently coordinated offense can generally beat out a “lets cap and defend” defense, and once again communication is the KEY.

I’m going to break down some pictures for you...keep in mind I’m not an artist. :)
Step 1 – The Setup
You want to have 8 guys(represented by circles) go left, 2 guys go middle and 5 guys go right. Cap LL, LR towers. You want to do this because traditionally people go to their STRONG hand side; you want to play on this weakness and meet their main force and crush it with your 8 forcing it to res at the UR.
A key component here is the 2 guys going middle. They are not there to get the flag. They are there as a decoy to prevent people from breaking through the middle.

Step 2 – The Left Side Strong Side
Because you sent 8 to cap the left side it should cap significantly faster. Once this is capped ALL 8 players need to go attack and cap the UL tower. The 5 Players at the LR tower need to Defend the LR tower. The 2 in the middle still need to keep up the charade that there is a force in the middle. Usually people are so excited that they are getting the flag they will just stand there...let them they will be dead soon. BUT if need be the 2 need to go help the 5 defend the LR. It’s ok if you leave the middle as the Left strong arm should be sending people to the GY faster than they are able to send people through the middle.

Step 3. - The Hammer and Anvil.
Once your 8 cap the UL you should have a makeup like my picture here. I’m gonna go ahead and assume some of you died in the process. Because of the res you should have roughly 4 at UL, 4 at LL, and 7 at LR.
It is extremely important that at this point EVERYONE charge the UR tower.
The 4 at the LL need to go up the middle to clean out anyone who might have tried to come up the middle DO NOT STOP FOR THE FLAG OR IT’S FAIL Continue up to help the 4 at the UL

The 4 at the UL need to push towards the UR with any luck the 4 from the UL and the 4 from the LL will meet somewhere between UR & UL.

The 7 at the LR Needs to push north. Leave no DEFENDERS NONE. You have to do this part fast too because you’re depending on the Res timer to allow you a full on ZERG at the UR with not so many people.

So this is a very strong opening move and I’ve actually seen much success with it, or variations of it. As always you need to adjust to the situations at hand but the overall goal should be to cap 3 towers first because with 3 towers capped you can effectively control the roads and defend just 2 towers while holding three.

So what happens if the opening move fails?
Again you should always strive to work off the simple premise that MORE beats less. You will always have an advantage so long as you IGNORE THE FLAG. The flag is nice to have if you’re at a 4 cap otherwise sending people to focus on the flag only eliminates your strategic control of the field.

The other VERY important thing is to NOT fight on the TOWERS....I know this goes against’ conventional wisdom but here’s why you want to fight in the zones that are red in the pic below.

By bringing your battle lines up to the red zones you can control the movement of your enemy. The black lines in the picture below are your enemies coming from UR as you can see they CANNOT go around you, they CANNOT cut down the middle and they cannot get to LR without going through you.

“Buh buh buh what about the towers Blackthought, wont they get capped?”
No, no they will not. See the grand thing is that because I’m gonna go ahead and assume some people on your side are going to die we’ll let them spot check the towers as they res. IF when they res and a tower is getting capped they need to first call it out, and second, attempt to stop it. More importantly they need to call out the number so everyone can know how many people are there and if there are enough people to recap. If you do not post your position where the RED SPOTS are basically what happens is that instead of going to attack UL and LR where your forces are gathered they will go cross country and head straight for LL. Fighting on red gives you such an advantage once you’ve gotten the upper hand that it’s very hard for people to break through it.

So like I said this is best case scenario and obviously VERY optimistic in its hopes of people listening and executing things right. If people aren’t getting with the program then like I said before play to your strengths and work in large groups.

This works really well when you’re in a premade, when you’re not chances are you’ll be the only enlightened soul so we’ll cover what to do when you’re in a good ol fashion pug.

In a pug EVERYTHING I just went over is the exact opposite of what you’re group is going to do. They will split up almost evenly half left, half right, half up the middle (I’m an Orc what do you expect), they will continually try to cap the flag while their towers are being ransacked, they will run straight at defenders and when they do have a slight upper hand instead of pressing the attack they will allow for the other side to zerg one tower and cap it and it turns into a large mess. If you’ve ever seen the movie 300 you might recall a scene where they let the Acadians help in the battle and Dilios, the one eyed narrator, basically calls them sloppy with how they hack about wildly more brawler than soldier. Well this is how I feel in EOTS more often than not.

Knowing your pug is going to do this you MUST fall back on communication to help give you that edge.

As you’re having to play to the pugs style it’s often best to push for them to cap 2 and keep taking the flag. The easiest way to do this is to have a smaller force at each of the two towers and then a “mid” force that takes the flag and responds to zergs. In a pug if you can’t cap and hold three just stop and defend the 2 you have because if you keep going for the 3 cap and it’s not working this strategy can make EOTS go on forever.

So there it is the EOTS strategy. Not rocket science and I would say of ALL the BG’s it’s the one most difficult to control because it’s the easiest to have everyone spread apart doing their own thing.

Next we’ll be going over AV. As this is the fourth of July weekend I’ll most likely be celebrating by blowing something up...or killing a gnome...oh I know. I’ll blow up a gnome, it’s the best of both worlds.
